Jamestown College has a long standing history with the Christian Church. The College institution was formally located in Jamestown, N.D., by an act of the Presbytery on October 31, 1883. Gaining support from the Pembina Presbytery and the Northern Pacific Presbytery, the trustees formed an application for charter on Nov. 19 of that year.
Throughout its more than 100-year history, Jamestown College has consistently stood for academic excellence and Christian principles in all that it does. The most recent mission statement, written in 1980 and approved by the faculty and the Board of Trustees, states:
"We are a community dedicated to the development of wholeness in our students through adherence to a curriculum of academic excellence which balances the ideals of the liberal arts tradition and sound professional preparation, within a Christian atmosphere of self-discipline, responsibility, and concern for continuing growth of the individual."
On March 6, 2004, Jamestown College signed a new covenant with the Presbyterian Church to reaffirm their relationship. In this respect, the College serves both the Church and the common good by training the minds of young adults in a formative environment. This training encourages integrity, leadership, service to others, intellectual inquiry, curiosity and disciplined morality.
